The owner · Est. 1999

Scott’s rule is simple. The name on the estimate is the name at your door.

Painting is not like other trades. The crew is not out at the curb. They are in your living room, your kitchen, your stairwell, around your family and your things. Scott believes that if a crew is coming into your house, you should be able to greet them by name.

With Cornerstone, you can. No salesperson comes ahead of the crew. Scott writes the estimate himself and works the job himself, and after more than 25 years that is still the whole arrangement.

In their own words

The best proof is a familythat keeps letting them back in.

We wholeheartedly recommend Scott and his team for your painting projects, both interior and exterior. They have painted the exterior of our home twice in the past thirty years. That was a challenging feat as our home has three levels on a sloped hillside! More recently they painted our main level following a kitchen remodeling project. This involved painting 25-30 foot ceilings, a stairwell on two levels and the walls. This group is professional, efficient and entertaining. Their pricing is very competitive as well. We have referred them to others and believe they will always do their best.

How it works

From the first call to the final coat, here's how it goes.

Four steps, the same on every job. Most of the care goes into the prep, because that's what decides how long the finish lasts.

01

Call Scott

Tell him what you're working with. A house exterior, an interior after a remodel, a commercial building. You're talking to the owner from the first minute, and he'll set up a time to come look.

02

Scott comes out and looks at it himself

He walks the job, checks what the surfaces need, and gives you a clear number. No salesperson in between. The man pricing the work is the man responsible for it.

03

Prep work done right

The finish is only as good as what's under it. Powerwash, defect and rot check, carpentry repairs where needed, prime and caulk, all before the brush or roller ever touches the wall.

04

Scott checks it before it's called done

He's been doing it himself for more than 25 years. Navy discipline means done is actually done. The crew packs up, cleans up, and leaves your home the way they found it.

Every pro lays the W first, then fills it in tight. A loaded roller goes on in a W, then gets filled in before the edge dries. Even coverage, no lap lines, a clean cut at the trim. That has been the standard here for more than 25 years.

Color, handled

Can't pick a color?Scott helps with that too.

Color selection help on every job, and if you’re painting into finished work, the crew can match your existing color. Try it yourself: open the deck, tap a chip, watch the wall.

Who's actually coming into my house?

Scott Cohoon and his crew. Scott is a retired U.S. Navy veteran who founded Cornerstone in 1999, and for more than 25 years he has been on every job himself. You meet him at the estimate, and he's the same person who looks the work over before it's called done.

Who answers when I call?

The owner. There's no call center and no salesperson. The person you deal with, start to finish, is Scott.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Free, no fee either way, and the number comes from Scott himself.

What kinds of painting do you do?

Exteriors, from single-story homes to three-level hillside houses with cedar siding. Interiors, including 25 to 30-foot ceilings, stairwells, and repaints after a remodel. Industrial work like structural steel and water towers, with sandblasting prep. And commercial buildings across the Sioux Falls area.

How long does a paint job take?

Most small jobs take two or three days. Paint needs real dry time between coats, and rushing it is how a finish fails early. Scott would rather do it right than do it fast.

Can you help me pick a color, or match one I already have?

Yes to both. Scott helps with color selection on every job, and if you're painting into finished work, the crew can match your existing color.

What areas do you serve?

Sioux Falls and everything within about a 60-mile radius, including Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea, Lennox, and Crooks.

How long has Cornerstone been in business?

Founded in 1999. That's more than 25 years of painting Sioux Falls homes and businesses, with the same owner the whole way.

Painting the Sioux Falls metro and the towns around it.

Cornerstone was founded in Sioux Falls in 1999 and works a 60-mile radius around it. Close enough that Scott comes out and looks at your job himself, wherever you are on this map.
